Redundancies, poor performance, burn-out, change, personal issues and other distractions can make you lose sight of what matters. Harriet Dodd, the TopHat coach has worked through them all. The purpose of her coaching is to enable you to find a way through and make it worth it.
My career in the not-for-profit sector and with social enterprises has given me the privilege of leading diverse teams in many different cultures, often in highly challenging contexts. For all its ‘goodness’ however, this is a tough sector demanding choices that sometimes seem at odds with the image.
I like to laugh and have a direct style even as I strive to be professional, creative and non-judgmental in order to support the changes you want. My questions and curiosity are based on a genuine interest in what you consider is worthwhile and the challenge of staying on course. My aim is to help you decide what “worth it” means and to partner with you as you make decisions. Your choices have the potential not only to change you but those around you and beyond.
Edinburgh based, internationally active
I have had fun, and, sometimes difficult experiences leading and supporting small and large organisations in more than 10 countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia. I have been a founding member of two organisations. My optimism and confidence rests on more than three decades of work experience as a leader and HR professional in a wide range of contexts.
I take inspiration from people and teams I have worked with and learn from. My fellow teachers in rural schools in Sudan, small business leaders in Nigeria, international programme teams, or small UK-based businesses, and, now my coaching clients, have confirmed for me the brilliance of people and the potential in all of us. Their achievements and their resilience is remarkable, although they are sometimes the last to notice.
My coaching seeks to help you get to know yourself better and provide the space for you to define courageously what you want. As your coach and partner in your change, I am able to offer flexible support packages to suit your needs and ensure you and/or your teams get what they need. Tophat coaching is based in Edinburgh. I also live partly in Sudan and travel extensively, Covid and other restrictions, notwithstanding.
